this has been a rough week.
anyways, i thought i would write a bit about ny fashion week since that is what everyone who is anyone seems to be buzzing about right now and since i am SUCH a hipster i have to keep my cred up. anyways... i am an avid fan of the stylish wanderer, but since her posts have recently been disappointing, i have taken to following those bloggers she has listed under 'the fantastics.'
(also, psimadethis has been a wonderful source.)
anyways, now that i am using google reader (damn you, james!), i have been able to sift through the fall rtw '10 collections with lightning speed. and since i have been flying at such a high speed, i really haven't sat down and given some of the collections the proper attention they deserve. some collections that have grabbed my attention, however, have been 3.1 phillip lim, brian reyes, michael kors, derek lam, matthew ames, max azria (BCBG's shoes were ka-ka-ka-killah!), narciso rodriguez, rodarte, araks, erin fetherston, tess giberson, lutz and patmos, ports 1920, juan carlos obando, julian louie, lacoste, richard chai love, and michael angel.
phewf.
quite a few.
so i am planning on doing individual posts on each designer over the weekend.
just bear with me and my mini rant first.
i was NOT impressed by several designers i usually like, though, (COUGH marchesa COUGH proenza schouler COUGH ((i mean come on! i even watched that documentary on you guys!!!)) ). AND MARC BY MARC JACOBS??? what happened, buddy? the show was just... boring? i dunno. it screamed sonia rykiel for h&m with the stripes even though i thought the colors to be nicely selected. and rag & bone? i think i must have seen the shots from that show about fifteen times now. they're absolutely everywhere. some people are just going apey over all of these different collections, and no. just... no. not good. beautiful, yes, but what i had in mind for fall? ready to wear? no. but that's just me.
also, i wasn't really a big fan of the prints everyone was using. a lot of zebra-ish and spotty things that just didn't go over well with me. i don't mind busy ensembles, but the printing was just a bit excessive and distracting. i'd much rather see some beautiful forms than some bizarre prints.
i also refuse to comment on alexander wang's collection since i am still getting over his last amazing show. every piece in that was just breathtaking. this one... not so much, but maybe i just need to look at it as obsessively as i did his previous collection.
as far as trends go, i am most definitely in love with the suiting and minimalism. and the color palette for the most part? let's have babies. i LOVE the nudes with grey. i NEEEEED a camel coat! AND sparkles. everyone who knows me personally knows i have an unhealthy obsession with those things. dear lawd. dynasty much? haha
and michael kors' belts? ugh. amazing.
but the geometric forms are the best!
i have a feeling this is going to be a wonderful season, especially for those of us who are architecturally inclined.
