i've finally gotten around to it, and i can honestly say i despise the video for mgmt's amazingly fun song, kids.
i don't see how this video is appealing or inspiring or scary or funny or anything.
it's just stupid.
the song had so much potential, and i can understand that they didn't want to go with the conventional rave/party video that would have matched the song's vibrancy, but come on, people!
the fan created video was much more entertaining, and i think it fit the song well.
this new concoction of mutilated body parts and disfigured people in some child's strange world does not seem like something most people would want to see. it's not even done in an artistic manner. i, for one, am not into blood and gore, but if it were done properly i could see myself enjoying this video.
i know it's supposedly based on that mark twain quote and all, but still.
i just don't think it was carried out properly.
and on all of the youtube pages hosting this video, no one comments about how awesome the video is or how crazy amazing the monsters were. everyone comments on how that child will need therapy because he has a strange and disturbed psyche.
i, too, have a strange and disturbed psyche after watching this horrible video.
the only plus i can find in this fail of a video is that joanna newsom plays the negligent mother.
she's pretty cool, so i can forgive some of the awfulness in favour of her appearance.
but boo.
boo mgmt.
a video is supposed to be a visual representation of a song, and although there are very few videos that i actually approve of to properly represent the music, i thought mgmt would be able to pull something amazing out of their trippy asses.
oh, mgmt.
it's ok.
the video may be a disappointment, but i continue to listen to oracle spectacular and i will probably fall victim to the next album.
just make it catchy.
